A shaman (also called medicine man/women, witch doctor, high priest, wizard, magician, hypnotherapist etc.) is someone who can harness the powers of the universe for the benefit of others. He/she know to navigate in the sea of universal consciousness and perceive a world of total aliveness. They work with the Creator's creation to bring health to those who need it, wisdom to those who want it.

Shamans from all over the world work and communicate with the sun, moon, seven directions, five elements, stars, ancestors, spirit guides, as well as spirits specific to places, brooks, lakes, rivers, mountain tops (apus), plants, coca leaves, stones, rocks, animals etc.

A Peruvian shaman's tools for cleansing and healing include medicinal plants, songs, musical instruments, tobacco, Agua de Florida, sucking a physically affected area on the body, feathers, flowers, sacred rocks and stones (illas), other natural elements and prayers etc.
